Historic Granville Introduces “Strolling Through the 1950’s” Theme for 2018 Spring Events

GRANVILLE, Tenn. – Historic Granville’s theme for 2018 is “Strolling Through the 1950’s: Let the Good Times Roll,” celebrating the official grand opening April 14.

A full day of activities will include: a 1950’s antique car show, 1950’s music with DJ and bands, 50’s costume contest, holla hoop contest, bubble gum blowing contest, 1950’s games, 1950’s Sock Hop with a dance off contest, 1950’s Diner and a 1950’s Soda Shop, and the dedication of a new permanent exhibit on “I Love Lucy” which will be located in Sutton General Store, Granville Museum and Sutton Historic Home. The collection is one of the largest in the nation that has been collected for more than 30 years by Richard & Linda Cox. 

A Lucy Grape Stomping Contest will take place at 2 p.m. and lunch with “I Love Lucy” at Sutton Store Dining Room. The 3rd Annual Upper Cumberland Wine Festival also takes place that day with wineries from Middle Tennessee. The annual Genealogy Festival will take place at Granville United Methodist Church. 

The 10th Anniversary Celebration of Sutton General Store and Sutton Ole Time Music Hour kicks off with an anniversary dinner 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The show starts 6 p.m. with top bluegrass band “David Harmley & Cardinal Tradition. For reservations for dinner and reserved seats for music call 931-653-4151.

Sutton Homestead Historic Home is open, decorated in the theme “Strolling Through the 1950’s: The Postwar Boom.”

The Antique Car Museum has a display of 1950’s automobiles and the Granville Museum has “Memories of the 1950’s” artifacts on display. The museum also has a traveling exhibit from the East Tennessee History Center entitled “Reading Appalachia: Voices from Children’s Literature.”
