Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble Performs 27th Season Opener Concert

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Knoxville’s Ambassadors of Goodwill, the Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble has returned from a successful tour of Hungary and will open their 37th season with a slate of dances 8 p.m. March 2 and 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. March 3 at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium.

Eight choreographers join Director Irena Linn and Associate Director Amy Renée Wilson in works like “What About Us?” and “Focus/Fusion,” a piece based on Kung Fú techniques. “A New Day,” a piece by Jodie Brown that has been dedicated to the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, CT, will also be featured.  Alumnae Maricela Magaña and Karlie Budge will perform solo works, and Shelby Wade Potter and Sarah Lynch will perform their new work, “Sipka”.

In keeping with its goal of encouraging excellence in the arts, Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble will present Knoxville’s own singer/songwriter Sydney Stinnett as well as Knoxville Youth Chamber Orchestra violinist Ella Baldwin. Other highlights of the evening will include the Ensemble’s signature piece, “Forever is the Going,” choreographed by Founder Dr. Dorothy Floyd as well as Randy Duncan’s “Inside Your Heart.”

Saturday night only, Knoxville will have a chance to see members of the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance perform “Feathered Fancy,” a new dance created by Graham II company member and Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble alumna Karlie Budge.

Tickets are $26 for adults and $13 for children. For tickets, call 865-584-9636
